ST. FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL: 41

The Boyne City JV Boys Basketball team traveled to Traverse City to face Traverse City St. Francis, as the second part of a JV double header. The Ramblers came into the game with a record of 11-1 on the season. The game tipped off at 7.

The game started just as everyone expected, a tightly contested, back and forth affair. The Ramblers would score 12 points in the first quarter, led by Kolton Stadt, Scotty Haley and Mason Wilcox, who each had  three points. However, that was not enough, as the Ramblers found themselves down after one quarter 14-12 to the Gladiators. In the second quarter the Ramblers found a little breathing room. The Ramblers were able to 12 points again and this time hold the Gladiators to just six. Alex Calcaterra and Haley lead the Ramblers in the second quarter, with four points a piece. The Ramblers held a slim 24-20 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, it was more of the same, as the Ramblers put up 13 points. However, the Ramblers were outscored again in the third quarter, as the Gladiators scored 15. Calcaterra lead the way with five points in the quarter. Yet, it was Haley, knowing exactly how much time was left in the quarter. Haley was able drive the baseline, back his way in and put a shot up from the block to give the Ramblers a two point lead after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, the Ramblers were able to add on. As the game got late, the Gladiators decided to send the Ramblers to the line. Gavin Hewitt knocked down all four free throws and helped seal a 52-41 victory over the Gladiators. The Ramblers were lead by Haley with 13, Calcaterra with 11 and Hewitt with 11 points. Also scoring for the Ramblers was Bobby Hoth ( 6 points), Nicolas Santina ( 4 points), Stadt ( 3 points), Wilcox ( 3 points) and Jacob Johnson ( 1 point).

The win moves the boys to 12-1 on the season. They will start a two game homestand on February 11, as they will host Charlevoix, as part of a JV, Varsity doubleheader. The JV will be scheduled to tip at 5:30, followed by Varsity at 7.
