Co-Ed Middle School Cross Country vs. Multiple Opponents

Game Date
Oct 3, 2020

The Middle School cross country teams took a quick trip down to the Oscoda County fairgrounds in Mio for the Leroy Maxie Memorial race on Saturday Oct. 3. The Boys  ran at 12 and the Girls race started at 12:30. They both ran a 2 mile course went through sand, barns and up a hill.

The Boys team was short handed as only three Boys would make the race. However, this would not stop the effort and day the team would have. Isaac Dionne would be the first Boyne runner to finish with a fifth place finish with a time of 13:33. Which would be good enough to earn a medal. This would be a season record at the 2 mile distance by 25 seconds. The second boy to finish would be Mason Riccinto who would come up just short of a medal in 11 place. Riccinto would finish in a time of 15:13. The final Boyne boy on the day would be Caleb Daniels who would finish in 28 place with a time of 18:37. Which was a whole two seconds faster than what he ran on a 1.75 mile course at our home meet earlier this year.

The girls team would be about half of what it usually was but still looked very strong. The team was still strong enough to win the meet with a total score of 33 points. This was 8 points ahead of second place Rogers City. The team would be lead by Delany Little who would cross in 14:42 for third place. She would be followed by a group of Boyne girls though, as Cambrynne Giem was 4th (15:18), Chelsey Hertel was 5th ( 15:42) and Rayah Williams was 6th ( 15:53). All four would earn medals. To finish the scoring for the girls team was Kailyn Eaton  who came acrossed in 18:18 and 15 place. To round out the top seven for the team was Maddy VanNormen with a time of 18:55 and in 20 place. The rest of the team finished as following :

Brooklyn Bannister - 19:46 - 23rd place

Audrey Bowman - 21:32 - 30th place

Amelia Gross - 21:43 - 31st place

Anna Bowman - 21:48 - 32nd place

Alyssa McQueen - 21:54 - 33rd place

“ I was very proud of everyone’s effort as a lot of us ran close to or faster than earlier in the season at Boyne Mountain and the Mountain course was a shorter distance. Maddy and Kailyn stepped big to fill in for some girls who were not there. Which would help the girls win the meet. Everyone should take away a positive from the meet. We are gonna keep the momentum rolling to our next meet at Harbor Springs “ - Coach Santina

The Middle School races next on Wednesday Sept. 7 in Harbor Springs.
